Brooke Holden Calligraphy had the opportunity to create and design the most perfect wooden wedding hand painted signs for an October wedding near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The stunning collection featured more than 10 handcut White Pine pieces, stained and hand painted with perfection.
If you’re planning your wedding and trying to envision a timeless, classic theme for signage, hand painted wood is your pick!
The bride’s father hand cut every piece in the collection. Thereafter, we stained each piece by hand with two stains: Ipswick Pine and Golden Pecan.
At first, the Ipswick Pine stain was too light. We wanted to warm the White Pine wood and highlight its features. We let the Golden Pecan stain do its magic.
The result was this warm, golden hue that turns head and draws attention. We are proud of the outcome!
After applying several coats of each stain, we allowed 24-48 hours for the wood to cure. This is extremely important when staining wood.
Following the cure, we hand painted every word and design onto the signs. We used a variety of mediums, including: chalk, chalk pencil, Molotow acrylic pen, acrylic paint and chalk pen.
I’ve been practicing calligraphy for four years so the designs and lettering are all freehand. I’ll reiterate...I’ve been practicing calligraphy for four years. Trust me, if you’re interested in calligraphy or just starting out, trust the process and practice, practice, practice. You will hey there!
After the acrylic paint dried, we wipe each board with a damp cloth. The wedding signs were complete and ready for pick-up!
Overall, the project lasted many months. I first met with the bride’s mother in summer months. We met many, many times to plan and discuss details. If you’re planning a project like this one, allow yourself plenty of time. Wooden wedding signs are not a project that can be hurried.
Lastly, this project was one for the books and will always be a favorite. The relationship and newfound friendship with the bride’s parents will forever be cherished.

Christmas Calligraphy Class
It’s almost that time of year again! The cold weather is just around the corner and it’s time to surround ourselves with friends, family and fall/winter festivities. The holiday season is one of my favorite times of year. I love how it’s filled with so many opportunities to be creative with calligraphy. So I’ve decided to host a special Christmas calligraphy class to share projects you can easily make or do to celebrate the season!
Whether you’ve taken a calligraphy class before or never picked up a pen and ink this class is designed to inspire you to get creative with your holiday at all skill levels. This class will be a project based class so no previous calligraphy experience is needed.
Because this is a special class we will be experimenting with brush lettering and modern calligraphy styles. We will use a variety of tools, inks, papers and other supplies. Everything you need will be supplied.
Tis the Season Projects:
// Gift Tags // Decorative Cards // DIY Decor // Place Cards // Ornaments //
We will also discuss how you can give one of a kind gifts using your calligraphy skills. I’ll share tips and my resources for creating prints and other goodies with the class.
My goal is to inspire you to use the concepts you learn in this class year round for any holiday or special occasion. It’s a great time of year to dive into something new. Plus when it gets too cold to go outside, it’s a much better idea to grab some hot cocoa and get crafty. 😉
Come join in the fun!

Signs are hand cut White Pine, stained with Golden Pecan and hand painted with a mix of white acrylic and Molotow pens. To prep, I used basic white chalk as opposed to 2HB Pencil to save time erasing.
So proud of this project and even more grateful for the cherished friendship with the new clients
Summer will always be my favorite season because #beach (Duh!) but Fall has its fair share of fun!
‘Tis the season for falling leaves, spicy pumpkins and thanksgiving.
Summer was phenomenal (it always is!) Endless days by the pool, relaxing on the beach and soaking up the sun — that’s how I like to spend Summer. When Fall rolls around, I find that my schedule slows down (just a tiny bit!) so that I can enjoy friends and family. The thanksgiving and time together.
I’m happy Fall is here! Cheers to your Autumn season! 🍁🍂🎃
Agate Slices are the most beautiful for name cards, in my opinion. Cue the favors...Gift your guests with an item they'll love and cherish forever!
We adorned each geode with calligraphy in acrylic. I used the ever-popular Molotow One-4-All acrylic pen in white. Of course, the faux calligraphy stands out in contrast.
With faux calligraphy, remember to thicken downstrokes and keep the upstrokes thin. It's all about pressure. This project was tons of fun!
These particular agate is considered neutral tones. I've decorated all colors, but neutral is my favorite. The best part is each stone is unique.
