April Showers bring May Flowers...and beach days...and weddings :)
It’s a sunny Saturday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I spent most of the day outside sanding and prepping boards to transform them into hand painted wooden wedding signs. I used #120 medium 3M sandpaper and I bought this cool sanding tool for less than $6. Well worth the money! I applied one coat of the wood stain in Minwax Special Walnut. I used an old cloth to apply the stain. Dip the cloth in the stain. Then, smear from one end of the board to the other, in the direction of the grain. The small can cost less than $5 and will go a long way. (I bought it at Lowe’s) Initially, I planned to stain all the wood until I painted with the black chalk paint. I LOVE the results! The Craftsmart black chalk paint cost less than $5, and I bought it at Michael’s. I used a sponge brush to apply the chalk paint. It takes 24 hours for both the wood stain and chalk paint to cure. I plan to finish the boards Sunday. I am especially fond of the boards with the bark across the top. That extra piece adds so much character. In total, I have seven signs. Loving these blank spaces :) We’ll talk soon, Brooke
