I'm blessed with a love for sending snail mail and I got it from my grandmother.
As a child, I remember Grandma Edie searching the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Member Index for birth dates, anniversaries and any other celebratory event. (Grandma never missed a Sunday sermon or Wednesday night prayer meeting.)
She had a huge shoe box full of assorted greeting cards. She would locate the members and their birthdays, anniversaries or whatever celebration was current with the help of the index before selecting the appropriate card.
She would drop a note inside with the most thoughtful words before sealing the handwritten envelope. Three days later, someone would smile after opening their mailbox.
She passed her love for sending cards to me.
Brooke Holden Calligraphy will send snail mail four times per year. It's free to sign up. Recipients will get greeting cards, calligraphy goodies, paper goods and other treats along with a handwritten note and calligraphy envelope by Brooke Holden Calligraphy.
If you'd like to receive snail mail from Brooke Holden Calligraphy, please provide the following information.
I received an email on my wedding night from the sweetest bride, Jennifer McKnight. Those of you who know me, know yes, I was checking emails -- even on my wedding night. My new husband and I were getting ready to catch a few ZZZs before hopping onto a plane for our honeymoon.
Jennifer was interested in a seating chart and other wedding decorations. I replied, letting her know I would be out of pocket for the next week, but would be happy to accept the order.
Jennifer and Adam were married in Myrtle Beach at the Dunes Club. These beautiful pictures were taken by Hannah Ruth Photography, also located in Myrtle Beach.
Wedding Row Grand Strand featured the Myrtle Beach wedding in its blog, here.
Jennifer + Adam -- we wish you a lifetime of happiness, love and laughter!

BROOKE HOLDEN CALLIGRAPHY
MODERN CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP IN MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA
SEPTEMBER 3, 2016 | 10 A.M. - 12:30 P.M.
Brooke Holden Calligraphy held its first workshop in Myrtle Beach and I am still floating!
The turnout was great and the fellowship was even better.
I felt like I had been preparing for that class my whole life. It came very natural to me because I could see a glimpse of myself in each of my students.
I was able to share with others the intimidation I felt first starting out, yet able to reassure them that with practice comes progress.
After thumbing through the workbook, we began our first exercise: One Letter 100 Ways. Students were impressed with faux calligraphy ((Who doesn’t love faux calligraphy?!)) and were able to choose from a variety of pens and markers. I wanted them to see that the end result of faux calligraphy is not the tool; it’s the technique.
Next, we learned how to “lift the pen.” It was eye-opening for the students, as it was for me when I learned. I remember it being an “aha” moment. I was so excited to see that same light switch turn on for them like it did for me!
Students learned another cool style similar to faux calligraphy but less time-consuming. After showing different styles of lettering and explaining each technique, we were able to discuss tools of the trade and more.
The workshop lasted two hours, but I could have kept talking with them forever. I found myself entirely in my element. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity and look forward to sharing my passion of calligraphy and lettering with so many more!
